LEVEL A.2 - B.1

This week: Riddles

  • A man lives on the tenth floor of a building. Every day he takes the elevator to go down to the ground floor in order to go to work. When he returns he takes the elevator to the seventh floor and walks up the stairs to reach his apartment on the tenth floor. He hates walking up the stairs, so why does he do it?
  • A man rode into town on Friday. He stayed for three nights and then left on Friday. How come?

Solutions: (1)  He is a dwarf and so can't reach the button marked "10"
                 (2)  Friday is a horse

  • What kind of cheese is made backwards?
  • I cannot be seen, felt or touched, yet I can be found in everybody. My existence is always in debate, but I have my own style of music. What am I?
  • Why is it better to have round manhole covers than square ones?

Solutions:        (1) edam
                        (2) soul
                        (3) You can turn square covers diagonally and drop them into the hole.
                        However, this is impossible with round covers

 

LEVEL C1

This week: Riddles

  • What is black when you buy it, red when you use it, and gray when you throw it away?
  • A woman shoots her husband. Then she holds him under water for over 5 minutes. Finally, she hangs him. But 5 minutes later they both go out together and enjoy a wonderful dinner together. How can this be?
  • Bill bets Dave $100 that he can predict the score of the football match before it starts. Dave agrees and loses $100. How did Bill manage to win the bet?
